South Africa
Our recent cultural collaboration and exchange in Johannesburg, South Africa in May 2024 facilitated by Via Red Carpet provided the opportunity for our teams to develop a partnership and share our artistic works. As artistic organizations, we see the value and impact of telling our stories while connecting it to our shared histories. Combining the rhythmic elements of gumboots and pantsula dance with the intricate footwork of stepping allowed for the crafting of performances that celebrate our shared passion for dance and storytelling. Our exchanges of conversations with the Via Red Carpet team confirmed that the work that they have undertaken beyond the boundaries of South Africa aligns with our values, projects and the work we are passionate about creating.
THE RISE PROJECT
The year 2020 was trying for many. Driven by the desire to support and love each other through difficult times, we were compelled to use the gifts of poetry and song to bring comfort in a time of much pain. The Rise Project honors the legacy of our ancestors using the Arts to share our story of resilience. Working on this project in the midst of a pandemic, gave us hope, inspired us, made us smile and encouraged us to hold our heads high and rise. We hope that it does the same for you.
