Montreal Steppers presented their inaugural show The Roots of Step in celebration of Black History Month in Montreal. The show highlighted the resilience and creativity of our ancestors and the importance of us coming together to live, succeed, thrive, and SHINE. In addition to creating awareness about the history of stepping, the performances incorporated spoken word, drumming, and gospel music to emphasize the importance of black lives in the African diaspora. As a commitment to the Montreal community, over a thousand dollars was donated to various community organizations and families.
Montreal Steppers presents The Route to Canada- a virtual showcase in celebration of Black History Month. This sequel to The Roots of Step showcase presented for Black History in 2020, continues the story telling of resilience and creativity and influence of our ancestors in the African Diaspora using step, spoken word and song.
Rooted in the African traditions of storytelling and call and response, the showcase focuses on Black Canadian History. A combination of powerful and energetic stomps, claps and a vocal ensemble to illustrate the long journey of Black folks to Canada through Slavery, the Underground Railroad and Migration.
